.........From The Rev. E. F. Michael Morgan: Priest-in-Charge In his book The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels, Jon Meacham suggests some workable approaches that have bearing on both our church life, as well as our national civic life. -Tell the truth about who we are as citizens, and express our opinions. -Believe in our values, and stick to what is important -Interact with those who have different opinions than we have. -Respect every fact, honor truthful information, and deploy reason. -Find a critical balance, and keep history in mind. These recommendations parallel our Christian virtues and values affirmed in our baptismal covenant. As ambassadors of Christ we strive to continue in the apostles teaching and fellowship. Furthermore, with God’s help we claim we will endeavor to: -Persevere in resisting evil; when we fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord. -Seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourself. -Strive for justice and peace among all people, and -Respect the dignity of every human being. In light of the increasing amount of hate and violence erupting throughout today’s world, it is important to pause for a brief time of quiet and silence before we celebrate our regular Sunday liturgies. That designated moment helps to frame our reason for being present in church, in tune and harmony with our Mission Statement - “Welcoming All to Worship and Walk with God.”
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Morgantown Community Good Friday Tenebrae Service!
We hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter. If you were unable to attend one of our Easter Services you can read the sermon on our website. http://www.trinitymorgantown.org/sermons/
This is from the Archbishop of Canterbury's Facebook page: Today is the most confrontational and difficult day in the Christian story. The Crucified God tells us that the human problem of sin is too serious to be dealt with by us alone. It needed God himself to carry the pain and cost of sin. To understand what Good Friday means for us all – for the whole world – we have to do the hard work of reflecting on the pain and despair that Jesus felt on the cross and on our contribution to his crucifixion. We have to be willing to hear his cry: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” That cry was his in order that it need not be ours. That cry echoes through the centuries. That cry tells us what it means for God to love us so much that he become one of us. More than that it tells us of the cost of sin, of the darkness that our choices bring over the earth, and which is absorbed into his light. Another cry from the cross comes at the end: “It is finished." Jesus means, it is completed. The work of the cross has been entire, and he has done all his work. In John’s gospel the cross is seen as a moment of triumph, for through it life is offered to every human being. On the cross, Jesus knew all our pains and guilt – so that we would never again be alone in facing them. So the message of today is this: we are offered hope. Wherever each one of us is: in light or darkness, in joy or pain, God is with us. As we move through the final days of the Easter story, I pray that you know the comfort of God’s presence, his hope and his forgiveness – today and always. Blessings, ++Justin Image may contain: one or more people
Today is Maundy Thursday. If you are new to the Episcopal Church or just stopping by our page to learn a little about Trinity, you may be wondering "What does that mean?" In the Bible, this is the day when the Last Supper takes place, and it marks the moment that Jesus established the sacrament of the Eucharist, which is now part of every mass. The Last Supper also included a ceremony in which he washed the feet of his disciples. It is the fifth day of Holy Week, preceded by Holy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday. "Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words "I give you a new commandment. Join us for our Maundy Thursday Service tonight at 7 PM !
Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry A statement on the cathedral of Notre Dame from the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, The American Cathedral in Paris, and The Episcopal Church: The cathedral of Notre Dame is more than an icon of the city of Paris; it is an ancient place of worship at which Christians have gathered for nearly a thousand years. In this most sacred of weeks in the Christian year, all Christians mourn the damage caused by the ravages of a terrible and destructive fire in that holy place. The Episcopal Church throughout Europe, with its seat in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Paris, expresses its sympathy to the people of Paris and to all who sense the immense loss of this priceless and historic house of worship. We extend to Archbishop Aupetit and to all his people our sincere condolences and our readiness to offer any hospitality that would be of help to the community and congregation of Notre Dame in this most holy season of the faith we share. And we send our prayers in this week that ends in what we know to be the sure and certain promise of resurrection for the future life and restoration of this monument of Christian faith.
